“Have you ever loved something so much… and then realized that you weren’t a part of it?

That was Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings for me.”

Mintrix and the Elven Figurine BTS

Mintrix Film is a production company dedicated to crafting original, inclusive stories tightly focused on the fantasy genre. Our mission is to innovate the genre through compelling world-building, new characters, and exciting narratives that are as diverse as the audience watching them. We believe everyone should see themselves as the hero of an epic adventure in a way that transcends hate, transcends othering, and transcends the systems holding them down. As filmmakers, our goal is to center women, BIPOC, and queer artists in a genre we grew up loving, fostering an environment where underrepresented storytellers and crew members can excel and innovate.

BIPOC audiences have driven recent theatrical success, buying the majority of opening weekend tickets for 7 of the top 10 films in 2023, yet these audiences remain underrepresented on and off-screen. We want to change that.

Mintrix and the Elven Figurine, a sapphic BIPOC fantasy, is our first proof-of-concept film, introducing an original universe centered around a women-led narrative. We successfully raised $30k in just 3 weeks on Seed & Spark, where it was recognized as a Staff Pick and awarded the Patron Circle Grant, proving there is a demand for new, authentic and diverse narratives.

As a Black/Latina/Indigenous woman, I don’t often see myself as the lead in fantasy. Most of the fantasy worlds being brought to life now are based on old IP that is decades old and often Eurocentric. I want to play a part in changing that. Mintrix is a character that I’ve created. She’s intelligent, complicated, and like a medieval, female James Bond. She’s also pansexual, and we don’t see enough queer representation in fantasy.
